Rage Against The Machine – Battle of Mexico Live Concert [Video]

Rage Against The Machine is one of my favorite bands ever. Here’s a little story behind me and RATM: When I was 14 I wasn’t able to slamdunk and I was watching the older guys do it. One day one of the older guys saw me trying to make a slamdunk, when he saw I failed again and again he told me: “Go buy the Rage Against The Machine album and you’ll be dunking in no time. And so I did. And I was dunking ever since. Until I got too fat to dunk! ๐Ÿ˜‰

BLAST FROM THE PAST: VOLUME 10 – PISTOL GRIP PUMP + BONUS: RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE Version (MP3)

volume10

With the release of “Pistol Grip Pump” as his debut single in 1993, Volume 10 set quite an ambitious precedent for himself. As the song and its off-centered interpretation of “More Bounce to the Ounce” captured anthem status across the States, no one quite knew what to expect next from the self-proclaimed lyrical Heavyweight.

When his full-length album Hip-Hopera hit stores in 1994 it sure enough put a schizophrenic spin on what was quickly becoming Los Angeles gangsta rap. As a product of the Goodlife open mic sessions, Volume 10 utilized psychedelic-tinged beats provided by the likes of the Baka Boyz, Fat Jack, and Bosco Kante to cover almost every topic under the South Central sun. While hood warfare gets the flamboyant treatment on tracks such as “Knockoutchaskull” and “Flow Wood,” a more introspective approach is taken on “Where’s the Sniper” and “First Born,” which respectively tackle the topics of alcoholism and fatherhood. His second single, “Sunbeams” didn’t quite match the reach of “Pistol Grip Pump“, but it did prove that a touch of nature could still be enjoyed among even the most tense of urban situations.

Pistol Grip Pump, would later be covered on Rage Against The Machines’ platinum selling, “Renegades“. 10 also appeared on the “Project Blowed” compilation in 1995, considered by many to be one of the underground’s defining moments. Volume’s independent release, “Psycho“, both written & produced by 10, is an introspective, underground look at one of the originators of the West Coast scene.
